Parkview School Redevelopment Project - Concept Design Phase
We are entering an exciting phase of building redevelopment as part of the Christchurch Schools Redevelopment Programme. Masterplanning with the Ministry of Education and appointed OPUS Design Team took place at the end of last year to establish the principles and initial size / location of our school site. It also established the future development if the school roll was to increase further.
Whilst the size and location of the new building is now fixed by the MOE (as the MOE own the land
and buildings), we now enter the concept design phase with the OPUS Design Team to establish what
spaces will feel like and how they will look, even down to the detail of how any new building will be
heated and what materials will be used to construct it. As a school we are able to provide input and
feedback on the design of the internal spaces.
In our design brief we clearly stated that we want to have teaching spaces to provide for team
teaching, and have flexibility in the layout of these spaces as opposed to one large space. The OPUS
Team are really keen to hear our thoughts and ideas for the redevelopment and future of Parkview
School, as we will be the ones using the new facilities. We will collate your input / feedback and work
with the Ministry of Education and OPUS Team to consider and integrate it.
It is our intention that we get the best possible flexible spaces for our students. Our children really
enjoy the flexibility of our current spaces and whilst they are old and need improving, they are
reasonably effective. Essentially we want better light, heating/cooling, improved acoustics, colour
and attractive design, play and adventure spaces and landscaping. As a Board we have committed
significant funds to support our objective and will work tirelessly to get the best for our students.

As part of the personalising our school design, this student group will also be seeking feedback on our school branding, including a review of our name, logo, recreation and playspaces and building names. Following on from our work last year we want to be easily identified and have clear connections to our local paces of significance as this helps our students gain a strong sense of who they are and where they are from.
Next week we will be setting up the office in the Room 4, 5, 6 block with A2 prints and a 3D digital flyby of these plans for you to view, and this will also become a space where parents can come and share and discuss their ideas. This office will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-2.45pm and our students and Mr T will be on hand to discuss your thoughts. This blog will also be regulalry updated to keep you infomed.of our progress.
Your emails will be collated by our students and the themes will be shared with the architects in meetings over the coming weeks. We are very excited to be entering this process and look forward to seeing the best quality outcomes for our students and community.
